Why do people love Spotsylvania?
Home to two of our offices, Spotsylvania County is a mix of rural and urban landscapes, historical attractions and suburban amenities. Spotsylvania’s proximity to I-95, shopping centers and restaurants make the Massaponax area a hub for commuters and locals alike. Although I-95 is extremely convenient, commuters can now choose to take the VRE from Massaponax’s new stop! The new Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center is just minutes from many of the popular neighborhoods—Lee’s Parke, Lee’s Hill and Timberlake—and the Hospital hosts a farmer’s market from May to September with plenty of local produce!
Established in 1721, Spotsylvania was named for Alexander Spotswood, the Colonial Governor of Virginia, who founded ironworks in the early 1700s. Known as the “Crossroads of the Civil War,” four major Civil War battles were fought on Spotsylvania soil including one of the bloodiest of the war–the Battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse–in May 1864. It was during this battle that the clash between the armies of Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee took place. The County isn’t just remarkable for its history—the beautiful Lake Anna, Ni River Reservoir and Hunting Run Reservoir are amazing destinations for boating, fishing and even horseback riding! There are twelve parks throughout Spotsylvania County for families to enjoy including the County’s award-winning Patriot Park with its walking trails and unique Amphitheater, as well as the popular Loriella Park with lighted sports fields and swimming pool. If you’d like to know more about the area, please feel free to contact us or visit our Spotsylvania or Massaponax offices!
